Generator Importers and Oil Cabals at Work”: Reactions as National GridSuffers Another Setback
The Black Box Nigeria previously reported that the national grid has collapsed for the second time in three days, leading to widespread blackouts across the country.
According to the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), power generation fell to zero megawatts at 11:30 a.m., impacting all 22 power generation companies across the nation.
Multiple electricity distribution companies confirmed the incident on social media. Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), which supplies parts of Lagos, posted, “Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 07 November 2024, at 11:29 Hrs, affecting supply within our network.”
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us,” the company added.
This marks the 11th national grid collapse in 2024, with the previous outage occurring just two days ago.
The repeated failures have sparked varied reactions online. One X user, Zoe Adeola, suggested a conspiracy, stating, “Generator importers and oil cabals at work. How will they make money if power supply is constant? The Minister of Power is only making excuses, saying the facilities are poor. I strongly believe some individuals, possibly sponsored by generator importers and oil cabals, are sabotaging the grid. The shocking thing is that they may even be among those meant to secure it. The government needs to act decisively to solve this problem.”
Another user, Uche Nwalli, quipped, “If only our National Grid was as strong as our National Greed.”
A third user expressed frustration, adding, “I am tired of this country and this light issue.”
