The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested Hafsat Ganduje, the wife of Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, over allegations of bribery and fraud.
According to Premium Times, the anti-graft agency had acted based on a petition by her son, Abdulazeez.
Mrs Ganduje was arrested after failing to honour the invitation by the EFCC on September 13. She was said to have travelled to the UK at the time to attend the graduation ceremony of her son.
The newspaper reported that the governor’s wife was arrested on Monday evening and was still at EFCC headquarters as of 6am on Tuesday.
Her son, Abdulazeez was said to have reported her to the anti-graft agency for corruptly using family power and status for personal enrichment.
In his petition, according to the report, Abdulazeez in his petition had stated that he was approached by a property developer to help facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars and at least 35 million naira as “facilitation commission” which he reportedly paid to his mother.
However, a source was quoted as saying, “But three months later, the property developer discovered that the plots of land he wanted and had paid for had been allocated to other buyers. He then requested to be refunded.”
