Contrary to its initial claims, the Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, former media aide to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state is in its custody.
The agency earlier denied reports that it invited or arrested Yakasai. The DSS State Director, Muhammad Alhassan had said, “we have not arrested or even invited Yakasai. don’t forget he is our friend, sometimes, he advise us on issues of critical Security situations in the state.”
In a statement on Saturday, Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesman, disclosed that the erstwhile aide to Governor Ganduje is currently in their custody.
“This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the Department of State Services. He is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public,” the statement read.
Yakasai, known as ‘Dawisu’ on social media platform Twitter, was reportedly arrested by the Department of State Security in Kano after he called for President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over his inability to prevent the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Zamfara State among other security concerns.
His utterances didn’t go well with his principal, Governor Ganduje as he was relieved of his appoinment.
Yakasai’s sack was due to his “continued unguarded comments and utterances which are deemed contrary to the stand of the All Progressive Congress (APC) government which he is serving,” the state government said in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information Malam Muhammad Garba.
