‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, a hit comedy movie from the stable of leading Nigerian actress, Funke Akindele, has reached a milestone.
Banking on its successful cinema run, the film has become the most watched title on Netflix Naija. The comedy sequel has stayed on Netflix’s top 10 list as the longest-running title for a Nollywood picture, according to streaming analytics website, Flix Patrol.
The star-studded sequel became a major success after its release on December 25, 2020. It crossed the N500 million mark in the box office, breaking records as the first Nollywood movie to attain the feat.
According to a report by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the movie which maintained the number one spot for six weeks in a row broke Nollywood’s box office record with a cum revenue of N501,449,050.
‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ made history when it became the first Nigerian movie to premiere in the United Arab Emirates on January 21.
Funke Akindele who produced and co-directed the film reprised her dual role as Ayomide and Lefty.
She starred alongside Chioma Akpotha, Bimbo Thomas, Eniola Badmus, Deyemi Okanlawon, Zubby Michael, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson, Alex Ekubo, among others.
