Funke Akindele’s ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ Breaks Records, Maintains Dominance in the Box Record Office
Funke Akindele, the Nollywood Box Office Queen , has once again shattered records with her latest film, “Everybody Loves Jenifa”, which has officially become the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time.
The film, which went head-to-head with other box-office contenders like Toyin Abraham’s “Alakada: Bad and Boujee”, has achieved a remarkable feat, cementing Akindele’s status as one of Nollywood’s most influential figures.
It would be recalled that the movie hit N1 billion mark in just 19 days after its release in December last year, thus became the fastest gross movie of all time in the box record, BlackBox Nigeria Reported.
According to information gathered by BBN, Everybody Loves Jenifa has surpassed different achievements in the industry, including being the first Nollywood film to gross over ₦500 million in just 12 days. As of December 26, it recorded 201,604 total admissions, with peak sales of ₦256.4 million on Boxing Day alone – the highest single-day earnings in Nigerian cinema history.
Again, this year, the movie’s distributor, FilmOne, announced the historic milestone on Instagram, revealing that “Everybody Loves Jenifa” has grossed an impressive ₦1.466 billion at the box office, with the number still climbing.
The post expressed gratitude to Nigerian and Ghanaian audiences for their unwavering support, saying, “A massive THANK YOU to our incredible audiences in Nigeria and Ghana for making this dream a reality! Your support is everything.”
The film surpassed the ₦1 billion mark in under two weeks, further solidifying Akindele’s trailblazing reputation. This achievement follows last year’s success with “A Tribe Called Judah”, which was the first Nollywood film to break the ₦1 billion barrier, showcasing Akindele’s consistent dominance at the box office.
With ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, marking her recent hit at the Box Office, she had made name for herself with four different movies making highest gross sale ranging from “Omo ghetto: The Saga” in 2020, “Battle on Buka Street” in 2022, “A tribe called Judah” in 2023 and “Everybody Loves Jenifa” in 2024.
Social media has been abuzz with congratulatory messages from fans and industry colleagues alike, all praising Akindele for her incredible contributions to Nollywood. With this latest milestone, Funke Akindele continues to reign as the queen of the Nigerian film industry, raising the bar for future filmmakers and actors.
