Popular Fuji musician Abass Akande Obesere, widely known by his stage name Omo Rapala, narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation and is now expressing his profound gratitude to God.
The veteran artist, who has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian Fuji music scene, shared his harrowing experience with fans through a heartfelt message on social media. He revealed that he recently averted a surgery that could have taken his life, crediting his survival to divine intervention. “Alhamdulillah,” he wrote. “The Almighty Allah has been merciful to me. I escaped a surgery that almost took my life, but Allah said NO!”
Obesere’s fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry have since flooded his social media pages with messages of love and support. Veteran actor Yinka Quadri commented, “I wish you a quick recovery,” while actress Madam Saje praised God with the words, “Alhamdulillah.”
Other well-known figures, such as Fuji musician KS1 Malaika, also shared their joy at Obesere’s recovery, writing, “Wow, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, keep living in good health, my brother.”
This isn’t the first time Obesere has faced a life-threatening situation. On April 8, 2012, the Fuji star was involved in a ghastly car accident at Ijebu-Ode while driving his Lexus LX470 jeep. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. as he was on his way to Lagos.
Despite the severity of the crash, Obesere and two other passengers miraculously sustained only minor injuries and were quickly transferred to Orisunbare Hospital in Jakande, Isolo, Lagos, for treatment.
Obesere, who began his music career under Sony Music before moving on due to payment disputes, has had a long-standing rivalry with fellow Fuji legend K1 De Ultimate. Despite this, Obesere’s fan base continues to grow, solidifying his place as one of the most iconic figures in Nigerian music.
As the music icon recovers, his fans and colleagues continue to offer prayers and well-wishes, celebrating his survival as a testament to divine grace.
