The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a road traffic crash linked to reckless and distracted driving captured on social media.
According to a statement from FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, the Lagos State Sector Commander has been directed to initiate prosecution proceedings against Peller for alleged reckless driving, use of a phone while driving, and distracted driving, in accordance with Nigeria’s traffic laws.
The directive follows a widely circulated video showing the content creator live‑streaming while driving, an act the FRSC described as dangerous and unlawful that could have resulted in loss of life.
The corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, emphasised that live streaming or engaging in any form of content creation while behind the wheel violates road safety regulations and poses serious risks to both the driver and other road users.
In his warning, the corps marshal said the incident should serve as a “grim reminder” that fame does not place anyone above the law and urged professional bodies in the entertainment and influencer communities to promote responsible conduct among their members.
He stressed that “no social media content or online trend is worth a human life,” underscoring the importance of abiding by traffic rules to reduce crashes and fatalities nationwide.
The FRSC’s action adds to growing calls from Nigerians on social media for accountability and enforcement of road safety laws following the dramatic crash.
