Brazilian football legend Pelé has been said to be making deteriorating health improvements as his cancer is worsening, spreading through his heart and kidneys.
Great Pelé was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent surgery in September 2021 to remove the tumour and has since been receiving medical treatment.
The BBC records a statement from the hospital where the 82-year-old is currently receiving treatment which said that Pelé’s cancer has “advanced and requires greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions.”
During his glory years, Pelé earned himself the name, ‘the king of football’ as he scored a total of 1,279 goals in 1,363 games.
The Legend also led Brazil to three World Cup football championships in 1958, 1962, and 1970 and remains the only player to have won the Men’s edition three times.
In the just concluded World Cup, Brazil players paid tribute to Pele after their last-16 win over South Korea as they held up a banner with his name and picture.
