The Alumni Association of Fountain University, Osun State has come out to shed more light on what transpired yesterday between one Abdulhakeen, a 300-level student who was reported to have been attacked by Mr Abdulsalam, the Dean of Student Affairs of the institution for refusing to obey school’s rules and regulations.
Report also has it that the industrial chemistry student was rushed to the hospital following the attack by the Dean.
The Alumni Association explained in a statement signed by Abdullateef Hamzah Olanrewaju, its Public Relations Officer, today that the escalated event was supposed to be a disciplinary action by the Dean to correct the student for not obeying the regulations of the institution.
“From the information we have gathered, the rift was birthed from the Dean’s (Mr. Abdulsalami) disapproval of the student’s haircut, and his instruction to the student to cut it. This is a usual course of action for the Dean, since he is a strong advocate for good morals and traits on campus in accordance to the school rules and regulations.”
“The student (Abdulhakeem) was said to have evaded the Dean on several occasions, whilst refusing to act on his instruction to cut the hair until he was finally apprehended. We were told that the Dean then sent someone to get a cutlass for the student to immediately commence community service (cutting grass) as a punishment for his rebellion.” The statement narrates.
The statement also explained that during a back and forth between the Dean and the student, the Dean requested for the student’s phone with the intention of seizing it until completion of the punishment before the boy openly refused and made a scene of the whole scenerio.
“Mr. Abdulsalami requested for the student’s phone with the intent of seizing it until completion of the punishment. The boy refused to yield while Mr. Abdulsalami was struggling to snatch the phone from his hands.”
The boy allegedly made a rude statement that tipped off the Dean, and at that point he lost control of his temperament and drew first blood by dazing the student with two slaps, as reported by one of our eyewitnesses.”
“Of course, the boy retaliated with his own slap, and that was how the brawl began with introduction of several punches from both parties. There was no cutlass in play, but the student was injured physically.” Fountain Alumni explains.
The Association denied knowledge on how the footage got to the internet, but explained that several students recorded the scene and most were told to delete the recordings on their phones afterwards.
Members of the Association reiterates that the institution remains a formidable force and promised to bring all aggrieved parties together, in order to bring a resolution with genteel consequences which will protect the interest of the Alumni, the student, the image of the school and that of Mr. Abdulsalami.
