Former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has received his national honour certificate in recognition of his contribution to Nigerian football and service to the country.
Troost-Ekong was awarded the honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) following his outstanding performances and leadership role with the Super Eagles, particularly during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria emerged as runner-up.
The certificate formally documents the national honour earlier conferred on the defender, marking a significant moment in his international career. Troost-Ekong played a key role throughout the AFCON campaign, leading the team from the back and emerging as one of the tournament’s most influential players.
Reacting to the recognition, Troost-Ekong described the honour as a proud moment for him and his family. He expressed gratitude to Nigeria for giving him the opportunity to represent the country at the highest level, noting that wearing the national colours shaped his identity and career.
The presentation of the certificate is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing process to complete the issuance of national honours to members of the Super Eagles squad in line with promises made after the AFCON tournament.
