Former Xabi Alonso has emerged as a leading contender to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool FC, with reports suggesting the Spaniard is open to taking over at Anfield.
Multiple reports on Wednesday indicate that Liverpool have identified Alonso as a preferred option should they decide to part ways with Slot at the end of the season.
According to sources cited by Sport Bild and other outlets, the former midfielder is “ready” to step into the role if approached formally.
Alonso’s agent has also confirmed that there has been contact from Liverpool, further fuelling speculation about a potential return to the club where he enjoyed a successful playing career.
