Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London clinic, the family confirmed through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on X.
In a brief statement, Garba announced:
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”
At 82, Buhari was a towering political figure, serving as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as military head of state between 1983 and 1985.
Known for his firm stance on anti-corruption and economic reform, his two tenures spanned critical eras in Nigeria’s recent history.
Further confirmation came from Arise TV, which indicated that Buhari died after a brief illness.
Tributes from political and civic leaders have begun pouring in, honouring Buhari’s enduring legacy and life-long service.
