Former Polaris MD who represents Lagos East, Tokunbo Abiru becomes Southern Senators Forum Chairman

Senator Tokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East senatorial district and former Managing Director of Polaris Bank, has been elected as the Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum. Abiru takes over the leadership position from Senator Opeyemi Bamidele of Ekiti Central senatorial district.
The election, which took place on Wednesday, saw Abiru unanimously chosen by the 54 Senators representing the 17 Southern states.
Alongside Abiru, six other executives were elected to support him in steering the affairs of the Southern Senators Forum.
The newly elected executives include Senator Victor Umeh as Vice Chairman, Senator Mpigi Barinada as Secretary, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong as Publicity Secretary, and Senator Kenneth Eze as Treasurer. These executives represent various political parties and senatorial districts across the Southern region.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Abiru emphasized the forum’s commitment to discussing, analyzing, and dissecting national issues for the betterment of Nigeria. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with the Northern Senators Forum to advance the country’s interests.
“This forum, the Southern Senators forum, is to champion the course of Nigeria and Nigerians. We have our Northern brothers with the Northern Senators Forum. We will work together with the Northern Senators forum to move the country forward”, Abiru stated.
He also expressed his determination to make the forum more vibrant and proactive in addressing regional and national concerns.
