A former governor of Oyo State, Chief Christopher Alao Akala has been confirmed dead.
The politician died in the early hours of Wednesday. He was aged 71.
Akala, who had been battling terminal ailment for a while, breathed his last in his Ogbomoso country home, according to sources.
The Ogbomosho-born served as the Governor of Oyo State between 2007 and 2011.
He was the candidate of the ADP in the 2019 gubernatorial election in Oyo State which was eventually won by Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Akala’s passing comes barely 24 hours after Chief Ernest Shonekan, who headed the Interim National Government that succeeded the junta of General Ibrahim Babangida, was announced dead.
