Former Lagos State House of Assembly member, Hon. Victor Akande, has passed away following reported complications from an auto accident that occurred last week in Ojo.
He died on Wednesday, 30 July 2025 at the age of 59 days after he celebrated his birthday.
Akande, a lawyer and prominent grassroots politician, represented Ojo State Constituency I in the Assembly between 2015 and 2023, serving in both the 8th and 9th Assemblies.
Initially elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015, Akande later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), under which he won re-election in 2019.
During his legislative tenure, Akande chaired the House Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Petitions, and LASIEC, where he was known for his legal expertise and contributions to justice sector reforms in the state.
His third-term ambition was cut short after losing the APC primary in 2022 to the current lawmaker, Hon. Olusegun Ege.
Born on July 14, 1966, Akande completed his secondary education at Badagry Grammar School before proceeding to study law at Lagos State University. He served as Principal Partner at De Equity Mall Chambers in Lagos where he practiced his advocacy.
Tributes have begun pouring in from political colleagues, constituents, and civil society groups, who described Akande as a “firm advocate of human rights and a principled legislator.”
Further details about his burial arrangements are expected from the family in the coming days.
