A former Inspector General of Police, Muhammadu Gambo Jimeta, has died.
His passing was disclosed by family sources, on Thursday evening.
The cause of death, however, is yet to be confirmed. He was said to be in his eighties.
Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed condolences to the family of the one-time police boss. In a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the president described the late Jimeta as “a man of great courage, intellect and a true Nigerian Statesman.”
Jimeta, who led the Nigerian Police Force in 1986, also served as a National Security Adviser to former military President, Ibrahim Babangida.
