Former Ekiti guber aspirant dies at 58

Senator Gbenga Aluko, a former governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, has died aged 58.

According to reports, the politician breathed his last on Saturday after he collapsed in his office in Abuja.

Television Continental reported that the former lawmaker was said to have been rushed hospital before he died. Details about the illness are, however, still sketchy.

In 2018, Aluko contested the governorship ticket on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State. He lost to Kayode Fayemi who would on to win the gubernatorial polls.

The Ode-Ekiti-born politician, popularly called “SGA”, was the son of the late economist, Professor Sam Aluko.

Between 1999 and 2003, Aluko represented Ekiti South constituency in the National Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
