Folashade Oluwafemiayo has broken her own world record in women’s over 86kg Para Powerlifting by lifting 166kg to secure a gold medal. This brought Nigeria’s overall medal tally at the Paralympics to seven.
Blackbox Nigeria had earlier reported on the performances of Nigerian athletes at the ongoing 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
However, Nigeria has won over 80 medals in the Summer Olympics since their debut in 1992, securing 6 medals, including 3 gold, 0 silver, and 3 bronze, placing 21st overall in the medal standings.
In Atlanta, America in 1996, Nigeria secured 8 medals, with 3 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze, finishing 21st for the second time in the overall medal count.
Also In Sydney, Australia in 2000, Nigeria’s performance improved significantly with 13 medals: 7 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze, ranking 23rd overall among all participating nations.
Nigeria secured 12 medals, In Athens, Greece in 2004, wich consists of 5 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze, maintaining 23rd position in the overall medal standings.
In London 2012, Nigeria won 17 medals, including 4 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze, placing 29th overall in the medal standings.
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016, Nigeria secured 22 medals, with 8 gold, 2 silver, and 12 bronze, ranking 30th overall among participating nations.
Nigeria’s performance In Tokyo 2020 included 10 medals: 4 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze, placing 33rd in the overall medal count.
