A six-storey building at Martins Street in the popular Balogun market of Lagos Island had been gotten by fire on Sunday.
The fire started in one of the market buildings which went up in flames and destroyed foods for which monetary value could not be estimated.
Also, the fire on the building comprising stores and warehouses for textiles materials has been caused by an electricity upsurge.
It was said to have started from the fourth floor and spread to the fifth and sixth floors before owners of the goods who rushed from their respective homes could salvage their goods.
Meanwhile, officials of the Lagos State Fire Service arrived at the scene to battle the fire from spreading to other highrise buildings close by.
The Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Magret, said no injury or casualty was recorded as the Rescue Service in collaboration with other emergency responders doused the remains of the fire.
