Fire Erupts at UBA Marina Branch, Sparks Panic in Lagos Island Business District

A fire outbreak on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, disrupted activities at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch on Marina Street, Lagos Island, triggering panic in one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs.

Thick smoke was seen billowing from the building, forcing staff and customers to scramble for safety.

Videos circulating on social media showed some workers attempting to escape through a ladder from the balcony of the affected building.

It also captured the moment a man jumped out of the window in a bid to escape the brewing fire.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, emergency officials confirmed that no casualties had been reported at the time of filing this report.

The Marina district, which houses several of Nigeria’s largest banks and financial institutions, was thrown into temporary chaos as passersby and nearby workers rushed to safety.
