The Federal Government has unveiled plans to host Nigeria’s first-ever International Air Show in Abuja this December, marking a historic milestone in the country’s aviation industry.

The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, who emphasized the government’s resolve to deliver a world-class air show with international participation.

The event, scheduled for December 2025, will bring together global aviation authorities, investors, marketers, and other key stakeholders.

Dr. Kana noted that collaboration with the Ministry of Interior is crucial to ensure smooth security and immigration logistics.

Key agencies such as the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are expected to play major roles during the event.

“The seamless coordination of visa and security processes is critical, given the anticipated influx of global aviation stakeholders,” Kana stated.

Abuja was chosen as the host city due to its strategic location and accessibility.

Dr. Kana also hinted at the possibility of President Bola Tinubu attending the event, underscoring the administration’s strong commitment to showcasing Nigeria’s aviation potential.

The Ministry of Interior has assured full support for the air show. Permanent Secretary Magdalena Ajani confirmed that the online visa application system will be optimized to ease access for foreign participants.

In a related briefing, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, stressed the importance of early data-sharing, noting that advance knowledge of the number of expected attendees would allow for a streamlined visa process and minimize case-by-case applications.

The Nigerian Air Force has thrown its weight behind the event, with a technical subcommittee already working to address operational requirements.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has also pledged regulatory support and authorizations to ensure the air show runs smoothly.

The International Air Show is expected to be a transformative event, spotlighting Nigeria’s aviation sector and attracting new investment, innovations, and global collaborations.
