FG Seals Yet Another Chinese Food Focused Store

The Federal Government of Nigeria has locked yet another supermarket in Abuja as part of efforts to prevent the deadly coronavirus from getting into Nigeria.

The unnamed mart located at No.117 Ebitu Ukiwe Street, jabi Abuja was raided today by officials of the Federal competition and consumer protection commission (FCCPC).

Tweeting about the raid, the DG of FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera Said, “restricting Nigerians access to stores that sell products to Chinese restaurant same Nigerians patronize is curious and wrong. The curiosity is answered when we discover the products are expired, poorly stored or lacking in vital tracking b& tracing info. It’s a safety issue”.

FCCPC had gotten reports, raided and shutdown locations serving as discreet hotel, restaurant and concealed supermarket for wholesale supply of ethnic foods to ethnic restaurants. Most items found the location was said to be expired, in unsafe storage conditions for imported food, meat and seafood products.

According to the agency, this is another way of preventing the spread of coronavirus. With recent developments, it seems the bad days are ending as the regulator is determined to ensure enforcement. It’s going to be a long walk to freedom but the FCCPC team under the new leadership looks prepared, with swift action on reported cases.
