The Federal Government has expressed its readiness to welcome Nigerians who may be deported from the United States, assuring them of support upon their return.

Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media and Corporate Affairs at the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), made the statement during a recent interview.

He clarified that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is overseeing the situation while an inter-agency committee has been established to address any challenges that may arise if mass deportations occur.

In light of the U.S. government’s crackdown on illegal immigrants under President Donald Trump’s administration, approximately 3,690 Nigerians are reported to be facing deportation.

While NiDCOM has not been officially notified of deportation processes yet, Balogun emphasized that the Federal Government is prepared to step in, should the need arise.

“The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), in anticipation of any mass deportations from the U.S.,” Balogun said.
