The Federal Government has launched a digital Housing Fraud Reporting Platform (HFRP) to curb fraudulent practices in Nigeria’s housing and real estate sector.
The initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, provides Nigerians with an online tool to report suspicious housing transactions, whether anonymously or with full disclosure. Users can upload evidence such as documents, payment receipts, and location details, which will be reviewed in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa described the platform as a critical step in safeguarding citizens from fraudulent developers and restoring integrity in the housing market. “With this tool, Nigerians now have a safe and transparent channel to expose sharp practices in the sector. Fraudulent developers will no longer go unchecked,” he said.
The portal is part of the broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to deliver large-scale housing projects, introduce affordable mortgage options, and digitize land titling across the country. Other components of the reform include slum upgrading, urban renewal, and rent-to-own schemes targeted at low- and middle-income earners.
Officials say data gathered from the platform will not only help prosecute offenders but also serve as an early-warning system to detect fraud patterns in the real estate industry.
The idea for the portal was first announced in 2024, but at that time it was only in the planning stage. What has now happened in August 2025 is the official launch, meaning the platform is live and available for Nigerians to use.
