The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked a message circulating across social media claiming that all schools in Nigeria have been directed to shut down from 24 November 2025.
The Ministry described the viral message as false, misleading, and not traceable to any arm of government responsible for education or public security.
In a public notice released on Saturday, the Ministry stated that no instruction ordering nationwide school closure was issued by the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency. The document, signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, advised the public to rely only on verified communication channels.
According to the Ministry, official directives on education matters can only originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments, State Ministries of Education, or authorised security bodies. It urged school administrators, parents, and the general public to disregard any advisory circulating outside these channels.
The statement emphasised the need for the public to authenticate information before sharing it, noting that unverified claims contribute to panic and misinformation, particularly on issues concerning school operations and national security.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to providing timely and accurate information on matters affecting the education sector.
