The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The announcement was made on Tuesday, September 2, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The Minister congratulated all Muslim faithful both in Nigeria and abroad on the occasion and urged them to emulate the Prophet’s teachings, which emphasize peace, tolerance, humility, love, and good governance.

He further called on Nigerians of all faiths to use the opportunity to pray for unity, peace, and progress in the country, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous nation for all.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is observed on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, and is a recognized national holiday in many Muslim-majority countries.
