Federal government has debunked rumors making rounds on the internet that it announced June 1, 2020, as resumption date for all Universities and Polytechnics in the country, Blackboxnigeria gathered.
Following the outbreak of the coronavirus, the federal government, in March, had announced the closure of all schools in the country until further notice, as the Federal Ministry of Education said the closure was a necessary measure to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Investigations reveal that news blogs who published that FG has directed schools in the country to reopen, June 1, falsely used a picture of President Muhammadu Buhari, without attributing the declaration to the president.
The Ministry, on April 23, 2020, had reacted to rumors that schools will resume in November, 2020 to debunk the story.
Afterwards, the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwaijibu said “the federal government is not ready to put children at risk by opening schools.
“The president addressed the issue of opening of the economy gradually. Until that is done, we cannot foresee or immediately tell when all the schools will be reopened.”
Furthermore, in the directive easing the total lockdown placed on Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, president Buhari stated that all schools all over the country will remain closed for further evaluation, while encouraging school authorities to continue with e-learning and virtual teaching.
