Federal Government apologises to Nigerians, drops bank customers re-registration

The Federal Government has apologized to Nigerians for asking all account holders in the country’s financial institutions to register their details again.

It would be recalled that the government had yesterday asked all account holders in banks, including insurance companies, to fill and submit a Self-Confirmation form.

The order was given yesterday despite the possession of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the National Identification Number (NIN) by account holders, and it attracted widespread condemnations, especially on social media.

Failure to do so, the Nigerian government threatened to block access to defaulters’ accounts or impose a monetary penalty.

However, in a tweet Friday morning, the government apologized for the misinformation.
