An eyewitness has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral video allegedly showing Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson, in an altercation at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan.

The video, which sparked widespread debate, was described as a clip intended to misrepresent the Commissioner’s actions. According to the eyewitness, the Commissioner had visited the center, which is under her ministry’s oversight, to assess its operations.

During the visit, Mrs. Benson reportedly identified unauthorized activities, including the renting of space and the operation of a canteen without government approval. The presence of a gas cylinder in the canteen also raised significant safety concerns.

The Commissioner confronted the director of the center, emphasizing that government property should not be misused for personal gain. Tensions escalated when an individual began recording the exchange, leading to the altercation seen in the video.

The video has drawn mixed reactions online, but the eyewitness’s account highlights the safety concerns and governance issues that prompted the confrontation.
