Professor Akin Emmanuel Abayomi, the commissioner for health in Lagos has successfully undergone an eye surgery at the state based hospital.
The recent eye surgery at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja has been declared a success by the commissioner, who has expressed immense gratitude to the hospital’s skilled medical team.
Following a post on his official X handle on Friday, 17 January,2025, the patient share the good news, thanking the remarkable oculoplastic surgeons, Chief medical director, head of nursing in LASUTH’s Eye Department for their expertise.
Abayomi, who is also a professor in internal medicine and haematology, biobanking had his eyes operated at the state-based hospital, thereby giving hope to many of the power and might of Nigerian medical professionals.
According to reports, it could be gathered that the commissioner had been a key figure at the Nigerian Medical Research Institute in Lagos before he was appointed as the commissioner for health in the first administration of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu and has led the state team of professionals in the fight against deadly COVID 19 which himself was a victim before treated later.
This act of bravery and true servitude to humanity earned him a prestigious national award by the former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari in 2020.
The commissioner noted that the surgery, which was performed by renowned specialists Prof. Mrs. Bola Adekoya and Dr. Rosemay Ngwu, was described as “painless”— a testament to the surgeons’ proficiency and patient care.
