Ahead of Saturday’s qualifying match for the 2020 African Cup of Nations between Nigerian and Benin Republic, the Benin Republic Football Association has said only 30 people asides from the players and technical officials will be allowed into the stadium, BlackBox Nigeria reports.
According to sources, this decision was due to the COVID-19 protocols on fan control and public safety stated by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
BlackBox Nigeria also learnt that the floodlights at the center where the Super Eagles trained upon arrival were allegedly switched off around 7pm on Friday night, forcing the players to leave the place. The reason for this action remains unknown.
Recall the team, on Friday, was ferried by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) from the Five Cowries Terminal in Falomo Ikoyi via the Lagos inland waterways to Port Novo in Benin Republic.
The three-time African champions are set to face their Benin counterpart in an anticipated game tagged “The Clash of the Titans”.
The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 27th March 2021 by 17:00 (West African Time) at Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo.
