About 25 major generals who were supposed to resign following the appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff by President Muhammadu Buhari, have refused to excuse themselves from active service.
Recall BlackBox Nigeria reported that these officers who were of Course 35 and Course 36 are to face forceful retirement due to the emergence of the new COAS, a member of Regular Course 37.
According to military tradition, he cannot superintend over them because they are his seniors hence why they must resign. However it was gathered that these officers are reluctant to retire.
“They are of the view that nothing in the status book says they must compulsorily resign after a set below them is made Chief of Army Staff. They said they still have 3 years of service year,” a military source told BlackBox Nigeria.
The new army chief, was, until his appointment, the Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai. He succeeded the former COAS, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna, alongside 10 others.
