Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Lagos State Polytechnic Chapter have resolved to withdraw all legal issues in court towards resuscitating the union.

This was disclosed by a former scribe of the union, Comrade Abiola Lawal, at the emergency meeting of the resuscitated union at the Ikorodu Campus.

The ASUP Chairman of the Polytechnic, Akinrinlola Ibitoye, in an interview with Blackbox Nigeria, noted that the Union was never cancelled nor proscribed.

The Chairman explained that during a congress in November, 2017, some aggrieved members of the Union, who were reported for wrongdoings, ‘ganged up and unconstitutionally had their ways.’
While these ‘aggrieved members’ had their ways, the executive arm of the Union, reached for a decision not to metamorphose the issue into anarchy, Mr. Akinrinlola added.

“An opinion poll was conducted without following due process, rather than casting a secret ballot vote, head counts were taken.

“The management of the polytechnic was present at the poll, and this created fear amongst the Union members, as those who voted against were eventually reprimanded.

“Since the play of these events, there have not been any cut-clear Union in the school, except for those of us that are resolute, and as we were not removed by following due procedures, we remained in office.

“However, members of the Union, have come together, to say ‘no’ to the dissolution that was erroneously made, and forge for a way to resuscitate the Union in this great polytechnic.” he said.
