Excitement as School In The Street marks Christmas with street-connected kids in Ikorodu

It was a potpourri of smiles, laughters and joy when School In The Street, a non-profit organization committed to educating street-connected children, marked Christmas with some of them in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, on Friday, Christmas Eve.

Tagged “Santa On The Street”, the event — a celebration of Christmas with street-connected children — was held at the organisation’s Ikorodu Centre situated along Sagamu-Ikorodu road, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Adorned with Christmas caps, the kids were treated to a number of fun activities such as games, face painting, and dance competition. They were also presented with gifts from Santa Claus.

Speaking at the event, the organisation’s Director, Mr Olakunle Sanni explained that the intention was to bring the Christmas experience to street-connected kids and make them feel loved during the festive season.

“We want you to enjoy Christmas just like every other child out there. Whether at home or on the streets, you deserve to be celebrate,” he told the visibly excited children.

Mr Femi Silas, an anti-drug abuse advocate, also delivered a short talk on the dangers of drug abuse, and highlighted several rehabilitation techniques for drug addicts.

The group afterwards took to the streets to distribute gift items to other street-connected children in several locations in Ikorodu.
