It was excitement galore as the Mukhtaar Tijani Foundation, a non-governmental organization, held the second edition of the annual Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani (MTT) Back 2 School drive, on Saturday, January 15.
The Back 2 School Drive is an annual initiative to encourage children on Lagos Island to embrace education, as school supplies are donated to beneficiaries.
To improve on the feedback from the 2021 edition which targeted 300 pupils, the convener of the project who is also the General Manager of the Lagos State Electricity Board (LSEB), Hon Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani increased the reach of the 2022 edition to cover 500 kids within the ages of 8-12 years old who are also residents of Lagos Island.
This year’s edition had in attendance the Lagos Island East Education Secretary, Hon Qudus Abari; the LCDA Chairman, Hon Muibi Folawiyo, House of Representatives member, Hon Kayode Akiolu and his counterpart in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Olarenwaju Afini.
In his remarks, MTT implored parents to utilize the donated school supplies to motivate their children back to the classroom while also promising to do more on upscaling the education system within Lagos Island with different programs as the ‘Back 2 School Drive’.
Also speaking at the event, Hon Kayode Akiolu called on parents to increase the value system amongst their wards and make education a core business within the family.
Lagos Island East Education Secretary, Alhaji Abari appealed to the children to look up to MTT and his colleagues as role models to motivate and emulate.
While the message was for the beneficiaries, it also by extension made reference to their parents whose responsibility is to ensure that these children are able to uphold their optimistic visions of the future.
Meanwhile, Hon Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani recently emerged as one of the joint winners of ‘Most Outstanding Young Person in Public Service’ category at the maiden Lagos Youth Awards.
