Former host of TVC’s popular morning show Your View, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has opened up about her personal struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts during her final years on the programme.
Speaking in a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Afolabi-Brown revealed that she felt trapped in her role despite her 12-year run as host.
She said the mental strain intensified until she reached a breaking point.
“I was depressed. At a point, I was suicidal. I walked on the express, hoping a car would hit me. It was that bad,” she recounted.
The broadcaster explained that she had been contemplating leaving for years, seeking a “next level” in her career, but struggled with the uncertainty of her next steps.
According to her, the turning point came last year when she experienced what she described as a “light-bulb moment,” prompting her to resign in pursuit of new opportunities.
“It was when we [TVC] were ten years that I knew it was time to go to the next thing. I had been harbouring that thought for a while but didn’t know how to go about it. Last year, I got that clarity,” she said.
Afolabi-Brown’s revelation sheds light on the mental health challenges faced by many in high-pressure media roles and underscores the importance of seeking help when struggling emotionally.
