A former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has thrown his hat in the ring for the office of the president in the 2023 general election.
Okorocha, who represents Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, made this known in a letter read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on the floor of the upper legislative chamber, on Wednesday.
In the letter, the former governor disclosed that he would formally declare his presidential ambition at a world press conference in Abuja on January 31.
About 20 years ago, Okorocha made his first shot at the nation’s top seat on the platform of the now-defunct All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP). A disappointing result at the primaries ended his bid.
In a similar fashion, he contested for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2017. He, however, lost to the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Now in the All Progressives Congress, Okorocha will be slugging out for the ruling party’s ticket alongside bigwigs such as former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi who had earlier declared their intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
