The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 37 year old ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death during a dispute over a ₦100,000 loan in Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Akure.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on October 7, 2025, around 5:30 p.m., when a woman identified as Ngozi Gregory, aged 45, reported at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters that Ademola, an ex-convict, had assaulted his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, over a disagreement concerning the repayment of ₦100,000 he had borrowed from her.
“The report revealed that during the altercation, the suspect became violent and repeatedly assaulted the victim until she became unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a medical practitioner,” the statement read.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Idanre Division led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
The remains of the deceased were later deposited at the morgue for post-mortem examination, while preliminary investigations commenced at the division.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, strongly condemned the violent act that led to the unfortunate death of the victim. He described it as a “dastardly and senseless act of domestic violence” and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased.
“The Ondo State Police Command will not tolerate any act of domestic abuse or gender-based violence. Perpetrators will be made to face the full weight of the law,” the statement added.
The Commissioner has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Akure for further investigation.
