A representative of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ronn Andriks, has lauded the ongoing Ikorodu-Oga Festival for promoting cultural unity and community cohesion in Lagos State.
Speaking to journalists during a visit to the festival grounds in Ikorodu, Andriks described the celebration as a vivid display of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, noting that the festival embodies the spirit of togetherness among people of all ages.
“It’s very interesting. It shows great culture of Nigeria, specifically of Ikorodu. It shows how you keep your culture together, celebrate together as a community from the young to the elderly and it’s a great experience for us to be here,” Andriks said.
He reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting cultural diversity and heritage preservation across Nigeria.
“We from the European Union support cultural diversity. We support cultural heritage. To make sure that community can live together. The culture of Nigeria is very lively and enjoyed by everybody,” he added.
His remarks further validate the significance of the 34th Ikorodu-Oga Festival, which has already been praised by Lagos government officials, stakeholders and the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, for its role in boosting local economy and fostering peace through culture.
This year’s edition has promised a great turnout, improving the local business, culture and development in the city.
