Ese Brume claims Nigeria’s 12th gold medal, breaks CWG record

Nigeria’s Ese Brume has won the women’s long jump at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham.

Brume shattered the Games record twice to become a two-time Commonwealth Games champion in long jump on Sunday evening.

Though she failed in her first attempt with a no jump, the Nigerian set a new record of 6.99m in her second jump.

Minutes later, the 26-year-old went past the Games record with a leap of 7.00m, to win the gold medal.

Brooke Buschkuehl of Australia finished with a leap of 6.95m to place second, while Ghana’s Deborah Acquah came third positions with a leap of 6.94m.

Brume’s win means that Team Nigeria has clinched its 12th gold, surpassing the country’s feat at the 1994 Commonwealth Games with 11 gold medals.
