Some staff members of Enyo Filling Station, Ojodu Berger branch, have been suspended indefinitely after participating in a light-hearted Yoruba proverb challenge with popular Nollywood actor, Kunle Afod.

The incident, which has since stirred debate on social media, occurred during Afod’s brief stop at the station while on his way to Ibadan.

According to the actor, the staff members, familiar with him as a regular customer, greeted him warmly and requested to engage in a brief cultural game, which involved exchanging Yoruba proverbs.

In a video initially shared by Afod on his social media account, the interaction appeared friendly and culturally engaging.

However, unknown to the actor, the video would later lead to disciplinary action against the participating staff.

Afod explained that the manager of the station had asked the staff to return to their posts mid-way through the game, and they promptly complied.

He also gave them a token of appreciation to encourage their interest in promoting Yoruba culture.

Three days later, Afod said he received a direct message from one of the staff, urging him to take down the video, fearing it could cost them their jobs.

The actor immediately deleted the video from all his social media pages.

However, shortly after, he was informed by another staff member that those involved had been suspended indefinitely.

Shocked and saddened by the development, Afod took to social media once again, this time to appeal to the management of Enyo Nigeria and the public for forgiveness on behalf of the affected workers.

“A heartfelt plea for forgiveness from me to the management of @enyoretail Nigeria,” he wrote.

“Help me plead for mercy. We’re truly sorry for the content that led to the suspension.”

Afod emphasized that he meant no harm by sharing the video and had no idea it violated any internal policies of the company.

He described the interaction as a moment of cultural appreciation and friendly engagement, not a distraction from work.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment over the disciplinary action and calling on Enyo Nigeria to reconsider its decision.

As of the time of this report, Enyo Nigeria has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
