The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu has apologized and freed protesters and journalist who were harassed and illegally arrested on Wednesday during the #EndSARS memorial protests at Lekki toll gate.

Report has it that a man who identified himself as an Uber driver was harassed and dragged on the road while the police forcibly throw him into their van.

Also, Arise TV reporters were forced to take down their drones while some some of them were harassed by the armed officers.

The Commissioner released the identified persons who were locked up after he had a brief meeting with some of his men on ground.

“We will investigate those still locked up in the van. We are taking them to the police station. Once we ascertain that they are harmless, we let them go,” he said.

Odumosu added that the harassment was done by the bad eggs amidst the police force, saying, “That was done by Judases among us. By ignorant officers. This uniform I’m wearing, you paid for it.”

Today’s #EndSARS memorial marked the one-year anniversary of the nationwide police brutality protests of October 2020.

On this date last year, Nigerian youths protesting against police brutality and extortion under the #EndSARS banner were shot at by the Nigeria Armed Force at Lekki toll gate.
