#EndSARS: Letter To My Constituents By Ogunkelu Sylvester (Sketel)

Dear Constituents,

The recent upheavals which led to the destructions of property, disrespect to our traditional institutions, maiming of security personnel and the killing of innocent souls by unknown hoodlums who intentionally hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS protest to unleash criminal acts in the state and some parts of the country are seriously disheartening and worrisome.

It was rather unfortunate that, the genuine intention of the protesters was overturned and hijacked by some disgruntled elements with the dastard intent to disrupt the peace of the well-meaning Lagosians and throw the state into a chaotic situation.

I hereby express my sincere condemnation of the violence and the unnecessary destructions of tax payers’ property in the state.

Also, I commiserate passionately with the victims of the violence and unfortunate incident which occurred at the Lekki Tollgate and other places on the 20th October, 2020.

The Executive Governor of the state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy in their usual positions and responses have addressed the indigenes with a view to stabilizing the state and put things in order. They are also putting everything together to see that some of the demands of the youths in collaboration with the federal government are addressed and met in earnest.

Martin Luther King in one of his quotes said ” Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate only love can do that”. Hence, no matter the level of anger and frustration in the country, we should always preach love and peaceful coexistence in the interest of our dear state and the country as a whole.

However, l sincerely thank the youths of Epe Constituency II for their self restraints in protecting public property within the Constituency despite the level of frustrations and provocations during and after the #ENDSARS protest. You have indeed demonstrated the spirit ‘omoluwabi ethos’.

My pleasure and commendation also goes to our Royal fathers, the traditional, Religious and Political leaders for their fatherly support, prayers, advices, and guidance throughout this turbulent period.

In addition, I thank the leadership of the CDCs &CDAs , Members of Road Transport Workers, NURTW , Market Men/Women Associations and Non indigenes in Epe Constituency II for their unalloyed support in maintaining peace and tranquility within the Constituency.

To all our security personnel,I commend your display of high degree of professionalism and maturity in the discharge of your duties during the #ENDSARS protest.

As your representative in Lagos State House of Assembly, l will continue to align my thoughts with your demands for good governance through the instruments of legislations, youth empowerment and community development programmes/projects.

I remain yours sincerely in the service for a better and quality representation of Epe Constituency II. Thank you for your understanding.

Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester Oluuwadahunsi (Sketel), is a Member of the LSHA, and a representative of Epe Constituency II.
