Barring any last-minute changes, the days of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) led by Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, appear to be over.
Recall that MC Oluomo was earlier suspended by the transport union’s national body over allegations of misconducts and insubordination in negation of the NURTW constitution. What would later follow was the suspension of NURTW operations in the state by the Lagos State Government.
In what may be considered an effort to address leadership created by the suspension of MC Oluomo, the national body of the transport union has reportedly resolved to dissolve the administrative council of the Lagos NURTW.
The decision was taken after serious deliberations at a meeting at the NURTW national headquarters in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Guild reported that the dissolution of the Lagos administrative council was contained in a leaked document signed by the NURTW national president and other members of the executive.
“In view of the fact that nature abhors a vacuum and in line with Article 42 section 4, the State Secretary, Seyi Bankole is hereby directed to take over the running of the affairs of Lagos State council pending the constitution of the caretaker committee after due consultations with appropriate relevant authorities, meanwhile, all members of the dissolved state administrative council are hereby directed to handover all property of the Union, including cash to the State Secretary,” it read in part.
The NURTW national body also urged members of the public not to engage in any transaction with the ex-Lagos chair, MC Oluomo and other members of the dissolved council on NURTW matters.
