End of Fare Rebate: Lagos Transport Services Return to Full Prices

By Muminat Ajide

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced that the 25% fare rebate on regulated public bus, ferry, and train services will end on Sunday, June 2nd.

This initiative was implemented in response to the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration in May 2023, leading to a nationwide increase in transport fares.

The Lagos State Government initially announced the discount on July 31, 2023. Starting June 3, fares on all regulated transport services in the state will revert to their original 100%, as stated by LAMATA on its official platform.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had previously announced the 25% rebate on fares on February 23 to alleviate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal on Lagos residents.
