The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted claims that Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is in their custody. This is as his whereabouts is unknown at press time.
After Emefiele’s suspension on Friday, rumors circulated suggesting that he had been arrested by DSS operatives.
In a brief statement released on Twitter on Saturday morning, the DSS clarified that the suspended CBN governor is not under their detention.
“Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS,” the secret police said.
Following his suspension, Emefiele was directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the CBN governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
