Embattled government official caught with 400 recordings of married women has no case to answer -EG authorities
Baltasar Ebang Engonga, popularly known as “Bello,” a high-ranking Equatorial Guinean official and Director General of the country’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been at the center of a scandal involving over 400 explicit recordings, many featuring married women and prominent figures.
However, authorities have announced he has no case to answer.
Engonga’s videos reportedly found during a search related to a corruption investigation, involve encounters with high-profile individuals, including family members of government officials and associates.
Among the women identified in the videos are the wife of the Attorney General, the daughter of the Director General of Police, and the wives of ministers, bodyguards, and family members.
However, the Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, addressed the videos, noting that while the images reflect Engonga’s actions, consensual relationships are not criminal under national law unless coercion or violence is involved.
“Baltasar Ebang Engonga is said to have filmed these scenes with the consent of the women themselves, which exonerates him from a possible crime of violation of integrity. In the videos, he is seen having unprotected sex with several women, including those married to powerful and well-known people in the country, but also with the most “diva and influential” single women in Equatorial Guinea. Some scenes take place in hotel rooms, houses, even in the protagonist’s office at the Ministry of Finance,” he stated
Also reacting to the controversy, Vice President Teodoro Nquema addressed the situation publicly via X (formerly Twitter), stating that sexual activities in administrative workplaces are strictly banned.
“Given the abuse that has been shown on social media in Equatorial Guinea in recent days, and remembering that ministries are solely and exclusively for carrying out administrative work in support of the country’s development, sexual relations in offices are prohibited,” he wrote. “Control mechanisms are already in place, and anyone who violates this rule again will be subject to disciplinary proceedings for indecent conduct and will be dismissed from their job.” He stated
