Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) has expelled a 100-level Mass Communication student, Opemipo Precious Bolaji for assaulting her colleague as captured in a viral video.
On Monday, a video circulated on the X platform, showing the 18-year-old striking another female student with a cane. In the video, the assaulter disregarded the victim’s pleas, insisting, “Let me draw blood from you easily or hardly.” The motive behind the assault was unclear at the time.
In a statement on Tuesday, the university management confirmed the incident, revealing that Bolaji attacked the victim Gloria Ajayi for allegedly destroying her 3-year-old relationship.
Upon the recommendation of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, the university expelled her with immediate effect.
Genesis Osaro, another student who provided the stick used in the assault against the victim, was also expelled.
The duo of Mistura Eniola Adejuwon and Precious Oluwapelumi Olanrewaju who recorded the video and posted on social media were left with a warning.
“We encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences any form of harassment, abuse or violence against any student to report it immediately to the appropriate authorities. Moving forward, we will continue to prioritize the well-being and safety of our University community,” the varsity said.
