Over the past few days, one man that has been in the eye of the media is Bright Echefu, the new golden boy who is getting all the accolades for finally breaking the monopoly in Pay TV. While many things have been said about his person and his profile adequately enumerated, the man Bright Echefu has somehow tried to shake us all of his past.

An indigene of Imo State, Bright Echefu many years ago dropped his medical studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsuka to pursue his academic sojourn abroad. Years later, he returned with African Health Television AHTV which was established under his company, Bricke and Athens Limited.

Bright has not been without his own share of scandals. In July 2015, he lost his first wife, Cindy Nzeribe Echefu to death. She was pregnant with the couple’s third child and was buried a month later. The couple had two kids together before her death named Olivia Echefu and Bright Echefu Jnr.

However, in a turn of events which shocked family members and friends and which also broke the internet at the time, Bright Echefu got engaged to his late wife’s best friend barely four months after Cindy’s death. Bright and Florence Esu shocked many when they announced their engagement in December of the same year. Florence at the time was the immediate past Queen of Aso(equivalent of Miss Abuja) and she made no pretense in announcing how happy she was to have accepted his proposal.

As the story went on however, Florence Esu would later prove to be a gold digger after all as she dumped him months later. In January 2016, about one month into their engagement, Bright was arrested and on January 21, he was dragged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for committing fraud. He was accused of issuing a dud check to a vendor who supplied him with Computer systems worth almost two million naira. He afterwards issued a UBA cheque of One Million, One Hundred and Sixty Five Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (N1, 165, 500. 00). The check bounced and it became a police case which led to his EFCC arrest and trial. He was charged before Justice S.C Amadi of the State High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers.
The twist of the story was however when Florence took to Social Media to announce that she was never engaged to Bright. The former beauty queen made this announcement on January 22, 2016, exactly one day after he was arraigned by the EFCC.

A month after his EFCC travails, Bright Echefu found love again and this time in the warm hands of fair complexioned and beautiful Gift Chukwuocha. The new couple got engaged within two months making many tongues wag as to why he couldn’t even mourn his wife for a year before letting another woman move into their home again.

After this scandal, nothing was heard of the Medical Doctor until he returned with TSTV. With many people commending the novel idea of Pay-As-You-Watch, many others have also raised eyebrow about those funding him. While Bright presents himself as a young investor, observers claim he might just be a front for some powerful politicians who wouldn’t want their name mentioned in business circuits. The grant of a tax holiday has also made many say his financiers are powerful people in government.

BlackBox Nigeria however further uncovered that Bright Echefu is a young associate of former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo whom he has described as his mentor. The retired General who has told everyone who cares to listen that he is simply a farmer was even at the baby dedication of Bright and his late wife as seen in the picture below and they have been pictured together at other times.

Bright Echefu has also been linked with several ex-Governors many of whom had corruption cases brought against them by the EFCC at the expiration of their tenures…
