In a sweeping disciplinary move, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has suspended 87 top government officials including 25 commissioners over their failure to attend a crucial state function.

The suspension, effective immediately, was announced Monday night in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

The affected officials are barred from signing documents or carrying out any official duties for one month.

The breakdown of those suspended includes 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.

Commissioners are to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries, who will also step aside pending further directives.

“The Governor remains firm in his resolve to ensure that public officials uphold the highest standards of responsibility, discipline, and dedication to duty,” Uzor stated.

While the nature of the missed event remains undisclosed, insiders suggest it was a major state function seen as a test of loyalty and commitment under Nwifuru’s reform-driven administration.
